60 Rape Victims A Day Are Denied Abortion Care.
A New Study Finds 65,000 Rape-Related Pregnancies Have Occurred In The 14 States With Total Abortion Bans.
It has been 1,044 days since the U.S Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade.
In these short years since we have already seen a long list of tumultuous effects. From rising maternal-mortality, to children victims of sexual assault being forced to carry to term.
In fact, a new study from JAMA Internal Medicine estimates that in just the 1,044 days since overturning Roe v Wade as many as 65,000 rape-related pregnancies have occurred.
This averages out to around 62 victims of rape each day being forced to carry the baby of their abuser.
They utilized a multitude of sources to compile the data necessary for this estimation.
Starting with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and their National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence survey (which uses special methods to accurately ascertain reported and unreported rapes). They then adjusted these numbers to only take from females in the age range of 15-45, with the type of rape being specifically controlled for vaginal-only.
To estimate rape-related pregnancies, they multiplied the state-level estimate of survivors of vaginal rape by the fraction likely to experience a rape-related pregnancy.
This leaves us with the 65,000 number.
I believe this highlights the grave dangers of a total abortion ban, and leaving it in the hands of lawmakers rather than doctors.
When we do that, women die, victims suffer, and often the children end up suffering as a result. Let’s allow women the choice of when to start a family, as to be best prepared for when that moment comes.
This is heartbreaking-- what a violent policy. If America insists on making women the battleground, it should brace for the war it started.
Healthcare? We are a shithole country.
