The senate confirmation hearing of Pete Hegseth showed everything wrong with the Trump cabinet.
From the erosion of standards shown in going from James Mattis, the well respected General who served as Trump’s Secretary of Defense in his first term, to Hegseth the Fox host with infidelity and drinking issues.
To the sheer nature of Pete Hegseth’s past statements regarding women and their inability to serve in the same capacity as men.
At every turn, with every question, it seemed even more bizarre that Trump would pick someone with this much baggage.
If you didn’t know any better you might think one of two things. Trump was daring the senate to go against him, calling their bluff that they wouldn’t with the most absurd pick possible.
Or that he has some hidden vitriol toward Hegseth and set him up for this knowing what would happen, because boy was it brutal.
Take for instance the grilling he faced at the hands of Democratic Senator Tim Kaine that left us with multiple notable moments. Like this moment where he lambastes Hegseth for the allegations of him drinking on the job, before asking him if he would find his own actions disqualifying. Its wholesomely brutal.
Not to mention the moment Kaine grills Hegseth for considering himself “cleared” for cheating on his wife solely because there were no criminal charges brought. The way he doesn’t allow Hegseth to dodge the claim would make any lawyer proud.
We could move on to others as well, like Elizabeth Warren. Who, after Hegseth lied about disparaging women in the military to Senator Killibrand, came with the receipts on every comment he’s publicly made.
Or female veteran-turned senator Tammy Duckworth, who eviscerated Hegseth for his comments about women who serve. Comparing the standards he wants to hold for them to the lack of standards he clearly holds for himself.
Possibly the most damming moment came separate from these however, as during questioning from Elissa Slotkin, Hegseth declined to state he would refuse an order from Donald Trump that was unconstitutional. Something that is not a hypothetical, as Trump has called for the national guard to come down on unarmed protesters before.
This alone speaks to the true nature behind this Trump cabinet. As Mark Kelly also stated to Hegseth during the hearing, he’s lying because the truth would show he’s unqualified. Which rings true for most of the Trump cabinet, where its clear loyalty was weighed over qualifications.
What Trump wants is people who won’t tell him no, he doesn’t want people with the experience to correct him when he’s wrong. He doesn’t care how corrupt, how unqualified, or how immoral the candidates are otherwise, and the Pete Hegseth hearing is a perfect indication of that.
But unfortunately, there is no stopping Trump or his cabinet picks. My guess is they will be on the committee, there isn't enough democrats in either the house or senate to stop them.
I am sorry but U.S. is cooked.
White Supremacy has full power now.
Without know anything of Pete Hegseth. When Elizabeth Warren brought receipts of Pete's comments about women in the military in 2013, I was like 2013? I am sure he change his views.
But then when she was getting closer to 2024 comments, I was like... bro he he hasn't grown up from that. I was like 🫏🫏🫏.
