The Trump Agenda Is Forgetting To Lower Prices.
In His First 100 Executive Orders Planned, Trump Targets Pronouns And Immigrants. Not Grocery Prices.
Trump got a mandate.
This is what came out of the mouth of every Republican after his November win. Despite it being the 4th slimmest popular vote victory in history, and less than a majority of the total vote.
Nonetheless, this didn’t stop Trump and the party from making the claim. And to some respect, it could be true. Maybe not a mandate, but there is some expectation in his ability to lower prices and fix the overall downward economic feel.
Regardless of how the economy may look on a macro-level.
This is largely what Trump’s campaign was focused on, Democrats failures to ease peoples economic struggles. Playing on their rage at prices across the board and pointing that toward the left.
However, after securing the victory Trump was quick to walk-back his claim that he will be able to lower grocery prices. With JD Vance seemingly following suit, instead stating they hope to “stabilize” them.
Instead, his focus is on deportation and pronouns. Neither of which will lower prices. Speaking on mass deportation, it could even have the opposite effect. The price alone for what is needed to carry this out ranges from $88-$315 billion a year.
As Trump promises to cut taxes on billionaires and corporations, who do you think will be footing the cost of this bill?
Not to mention the economic effects. States that rely on this labor, like California, could be at risk of hundreds of more billions in costs. It would lead to labor shocks that would cause prices to rise in industries like agriculture, construction, or retail.
All the while this population commits far less crimes than US citizens, works at similar rates, and pay massively into social programs without taking from them.
At best, this would have minimally negative effects economically.
At worst, it could lead to grocery prices, child care prices, and more shooting through the roof.
Or take his weird obsession with pronouns, given one of the first executive orders he has planned is reported to be targeted toward those. I’ll lay out the details below.
What The Order Would Do:
This Executive Order establishes federally the "biological reality of two sexes defined as male and female.”
Removes all forms of “radical gender ideology guidance, communication, and policies.”
Forces agencies to cease “pretending” that men can be women and women can be men when enforcing sex discrimination laws.
Defines “Woman” to mean “adult human female.”
Directs that Government identification(passports, personnel records, drivers license) will reflect biological reality and not self-assessed gender identity.
This Executive Order would also end the housing of trans-women in women’s prisons and taxpayer funded transition surgeries for male inmates.
Protects Americans’ First Amendment and statutory rights to recognize the biological and binary nature of sex.
This includes protection in the workplace or in federally funded entities like schools in which staff is misgendering other members.
Not only does this executive order obviously not lower prices, it notably doesn’t touch on “gender-affirming care” which was the main point of contention on the campaign trail.
One last focus that should not be overlooked is also his new obsession with tariffs. Which he seemingly doesn’t understand how they work, constantly stating other countries would pay them when that’s not the case.
Where economists who have looked into the effects tariffs at the level Trump is promising would have, and there is unanimous agreement they would raise prices massively. With some estimates ranging up to $3900 more out of pocket for the average American family each year.
Across the board it seems Trump’s agenda quickly forgot its promise to lower prices. Instead choosing to focus on stacking his cabinet full of billionaires, ready to institute more policies that will favor billionaires.
It’s almost like the left was right about Donald Trump the whole time.
