Veterans Fought For Our Freedom, We Should Fight For Their Healthcare.
Donald Trump And Elon Musk Move To Gut Employees At Veterans Affairs.
Veterans have long been considered an almost guaranteed voting-block for the Republican party. However, how the Trump Administration has been handling one of the most important issues to this group might soon change that.
As announcements roll out that Veterans Affairs (VA), which provides healthcare and other services to roughly half of US veterans, will be firing 80,000 employees as part of Donald Trump’s cuts.
Already we’ve seen some employee’s fired, including halts on filling crucial crisis hotline positions, before quickly walking that back once it went public.
These cuts threaten to render the VA inefficient in providing it’s services, as it is already considered understaffed and underfunded.
Which, when the VA has helped roughly 32% of veterans with home loan assistance, 20% with disability payments, roughly 450,000 “survivor” households receiving payments, it comes as no shock why people would be upset hearing this plan.
This is a population one could hardly say doesn’t deserve these services, or that they are “mooching” off the system as conservatives might say about the less fortunate.
These are brave soldiers who were willing to sacrifice their quality of life for our freedom, and the least we can do is pay them back with a baseline of crucial services to aid them when they return.
60% of veterans have some sort of musculoskeletal ailment, with studies showing more than 1-4 veterans will suffer from PTSD, depression, substance use disorders, anxiety, or some other serious mental illness. Also, schizophrenia is a commonly diagnosed mental illness among veterans.
So were talking about a population that has more than earned these services, that more than needs these services, who also have a consistent track record of loyalty to the party Donald Trump represents, yet he is still gutting their services.
If this isn’t the cold admission his administration works only for that of the billionaire and corporate class, then I don’t know what is.
This story hits my heart. My Dad gave 38 years of service to this Country. He died in 2000 this would be affecting him if he were alive. 😢💔
